Nearly every culture I have researched, has a deeply hidden legend. In every region and as far back in time as written and oral histories reach, these stories tell of a being missing from modern mythological history. I've found out a lot about him, though, and now that there's nothing left for me to lose, now that there's noone else he can possibly take from me, I'm sharing.
Imagine a man, on a small simple boat, on a river or lake, going fishing. Hold the image for a moment. Now, what details did your brain fill in for you? What was he wearing? What color was he? What kind of a boat was he in? What was he fishing with? What's he fishing for, and has he caught anything?
The Boat Man appears as what you'd expect to see, but slightly off somehow. If you're not letting your gaze linger very long, you won't recall anything odd about him. Just another guy on the river. But if you look a little closer, let him come into focus, you might notice things appear a bit...wrong with him. And if you let him drift a little closer, you may catch a glimpse of his deeply glowing, fiery red eyes, that seem a bit too big for normal human sockets.
